Ron Caplan, founder of Cape Breton Magazine and publisher of Breton Books, recently won a Katharine McLennan Award. This award recognizes individuals who have made contributions in the arts, culture and historical preservation of Cape Breton. Caplan received the award during a special ceremony at the Katharine McLennan Centre at the Fortress of Louisbourg.
“I think the debt I owe to the hundreds of people who shared their stories carries with it the responsibility to keep those stories alive, not just in print. That debt will shape my world going forward,” he told the Cape Breton Post.
This award joins Caplan’s previous honours, including the Order of Canada and an honorary degree from Cape Breton University.
