Local libraries and book publishers encourage library patrons to read local

The Nova Scotia Provincial Library, Department of Communities, Culture & Heritage, Halifax Public Libraries and Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association welcome the public to Alderney Landing on Wednesday, Aug. 26 to attend the official launch of the Atlantic Canadian eBook Collection.

The collection is made up of nearly 400 titles produced by local publishers.

“This collection offers Nova Scotians access to the full range of culture produced by Atlantic Canada’s authors and publishers. From captivating fiction to historical non-fiction, poetry to children’s books we deliver something for every library patron. We expect the books will be very popular, and that this will lead the way to many more regional ebooks being available in local libraries,” Heather Bryan, president of the Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association.

The launch will take place on Wed. Aug. 26 at 10 am at Alderney Landing, beside Noggins Corner Farm in the farmer’s market area to enhance to the local theme of the collection. In attendance will be the Honorable Tony Ince, Minister of Communities, Culture & Heritage; Åsa Kachan, chief librarian and chief executive officer for the Halifax Public Libraries; James Lorimer, owner of Formac Publishing Company Ltd. and an APMA executive board member, and Halifax authors Chris Benjamin and John Boileau.

There will be demos of the Atlantic Canadian eBook Collection and readers of all ages are invited to attend.

“We’ve worked closely with the Nova Scotia public libraries to give library users access to lots of great local books in ebook form. We expect the books will be very popular, and that this will lead the way to many more local ebooks being available throughout the province,” says Carolyn Guy, APMA executive director.
